Philip Henderson
5th Dan Iaido, 3rd Dan Jodo
Regional Coach

Phil Henderson started training in Iaido in 2002, with Ian Applegarth Sensei from Budokan Dojo in Darlington.
In March 2009 Phil Sensei made his first trip to Japan which involved six weeks of training, interrupted by a two week tour of the high spots of Japan. It was during this period that he trained regularly at Kobe Genbukan with Oshita Sensei and his students.

A second visit to Japan in 2012, again training with Oshita Sensei, was another key point in Phil Sensei's Iaido journey and in November 2013 he decided to open his own Dojo…Hokuto and started teaching new students in February 2014. In August 2014 Phil Sensei passed his 5th Dan Iaido examination, at which time with the approval of Oshita Sensei, Hokuto Dojo became Hokuto Genbukan.
Having completed both the Level 2 Coaching course and the Grading panel mentoring scheme, Phil Sensei earned Regional Coach status in 2017.
Phil has performed the roles of Complaints Officer for the BKA as well as being the "Iaido Grading Officer" for 3 years.

Since the 2022 AGM Phil is now serving as the "Iaido Bucho"
